Job Context/Purpose
The pilot will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of VTOL and fixed wing unmanned aerial vehicles for various applications including tuning, testing and data collection. The role requires meticulous planning, preflight checks, execution, and post-flight analysis to ensure mission success and data accuracy.
Job responsibilities
- Operate Fixed-Wing UAVs in accordance with standard operating procedures, and regulatory requirements, in manual, autonomous and hybrid mode.
- Execute flight missions ensuring safety, compliance, and mission objectives are met.
- Tune the flight controller for ground and air operations.
- Monitor UAV systems and performance during flights to ensure operational integrity.
- Troubleshoot and address any in-flight issues or anomalies promptly and effectively.
- Develop detailed flight plans and conduct pre-flight checks.
- Assess weather conditions and other environmental factors to determine flight feasibility.
- Coordinate with team members to understand mission objectives and requirements.
- Conduct post-flight inspections and maintenance checks.
- Download and analyse flight data, providing detailed reports on mission outcomes.
- Prepare and maintain SOPs, flight logs, maintenance records, and other necessary documentation.
Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of UAV systems and ground control stations.
Additional Functions
- Adhere to all aviation regulations and company safety protocols.
- Stay updated on UAV regulatory changes and industry best practices.
- Be flexible with extended hours, travel, and schedule shifts to support testing needs.
- Manage inventory of UAV components, spare parts, and related supplies.
Perform other duties as required.
Technical competencies required for the Role
- Familiarity with various UAV platforms, navigation systems, and ground control software.
- Strong knowledge of UAV integration.
- Strong understanding of aerodynamics, flight principles, and UAV technology.
- Excellent situational awareness and decision-making skills.
- Proficient in data analysis and reporting.
- Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical/electrical systems and work with others in problem solving.
Educational Qualification
- Diploma/Degree in Engineering or a related field.
- May have remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) issued by DGCA.
Experience required for the role
• 10 years of proven experience as a fixed-wing UAV pilot.
